It’s no secret that sitting in front of a computer is killing us. As photographers, you know all too well how many hours we sit behind a glowing screen.

Besides having too much caffeine and showing symptoms of ADD, I don’t like sitting for long spells and have stacked boxes for years on my desk to spend some of my time standing with my laptop while emailing/writing/mind-mapping/motibodoing.

Looking at my favorite new toy/tool review website, I was intrigued at the prospect of getting a great dedicated standing desk. But my dual-monitor system isn’t conducive to being raised and lowered without a LOT of effort (= expense).

Then I had a brain-fart: I already owned expensive adjustable legs that were VERY portable. My tripod!

Adding some hardware to it makes for a *very* versatile adjustable, portable and strong laptop standing desk!

Here’s links to all the goodies I use.

If you’re taller than I (hey: no short jokes!), then make sure your tripod can be raised to a comfortable height. Also make sure your legs and head can handle the weight of your system. Your other legs and head.

I admit buying it all from scratch is a bit heavy on the pocketbook, but if you already have a tripod and head that can take the weight, you’re well on your way to creating a great standing desk and getting off your behind 🙂

Mutli-functioning as a great tripod helps justify the expense, but really: your health is worth it.

Would love to hear your thoughts and let me know if you try it!

Happy standing 🙂
